The Kyrgyz Republic recognizes the importance of public participation in issues of biosafety and regulation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
In accordance with Article 23 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the public must have access to information about GMOs and the opportunity to participate in discussions on decisions that may have implications for the environment and human health.
Currently, work is underway to improve mechanisms for public participation in decision-making processes related to GMOs.

A two-day national seminar dedicated to the development of the national biosafety mechanism was held in Issyk-Kul.
